Victoria Mary Clarke is an Irish journalist and writer. She has written for various newspapers and magazines in Britain and Ireland. She is also the wife of the deceased Irish singer Shane MacGowan.
Clarke is a music journalist who wrote for several newspapers and magazines. She is the author of Angel in Disguise.
In 2007, she appeared on Celebrities Go Wild, an RTÉ reality television show, that eight celebrities had to fend for themselves in rural Connemara.
In December 2009, Clarke and her now-deceased husband McGowan appeared together on the RTÉ One reality television special Victoria and Shane Grow Their Own in which they attempted to tend to their own vegetables at an allotment in Dublin.

Who is Shane MacGowan married to? Clarke is known for her long-term relationship with the late singer-songwriter Shane MacGowan, whom she met at sixteen, eight years his junior.
She wrote the biography, A Drink with Shane MacGowan. They did not generally allow celebrities or journalists to frequent their house but Sinéad O’Connor previously visited them.
Following an 11-year engagement, they married in November 2018 in Copenhagen. Clarke was with MacGowan when he passed away from pneumonia on 30th November, 2023.

MacGowan was hospitalized for an infection on 6 December 2022. He was diagnosed with viral encephalitis.
It was reported in July 2023 that MacGowan was hospitalized in an intensive care unit. Following treatment for an infection, he was discharged in November 2023. He made his last public statement on 16 November 2023, complimenting Travis Kelce’s cover of “Fairytale of New York”.
On 30 November 2023, after receiving last rites, MacGowan died from pneumonia at a Dublin hospital with his wife by his side. He was 65.
She wrote in an Instagram post: “I don’t know how to say this so I am just going to say it. Shane who will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love ❤️ of my life and the most beautiful soul and beautiful angel and the sun and the moon and the start and end of everything that I hold dear has gone to be with Jesus and Mary and his beautiful mother Therese.
I am blessed beyond words to have met him and to have loved him and to have been so endlessly and unconditionally loved by him and to have had so many years of life and love ❤️ and joy and fun and laughter and so many adventures. There’s no way to describe the loss that I am feeling and the longing for just one more of his smiles that lit up my world.
