Amal Clooney is a British barrister at Doughty Street Chambers originally from Lebanon with a specialty in human rights and international law. She got the appointment to be the special envoy on media freedom by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2019 but she resigned in 2020. She is best known as the wife to film director and actor George Clooney. Some of her clients are Nobel Prize laureate Nadia Murad and Rappler co-founder Maria Ressa. She does practice law both in the US and the UK and got admitted to the bar in New York in 2002, and in England and Wales in 2010. She has also been a lawyer in The Hague. For about three years she has worked at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City. She became a barrister in London in 2010 at Doughty Street Chambers.
