Christian Contreras is a Hispanic-American actor and writer. He is the husband of Yorkshire-born English actress Jodie Whittaker. He has featured in a number of big Hollywood movies, among them the 2012 thriller Zero Dark Thirty alongside Jessica Chastain. His wife Jodie Whittaker is known for her work on shows including, Doctor Who, Broadchurch, and Adult Life Skills. The actress was revealed as the 13th Doctor – and the first woman to play the role – in a clip played after the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday, July 16, 2017.
In 2020, Contreras featured in the American television series Soulmates as Samuel and in 2018 starred in the British television crime drama Strangers as Ben Torres. He worked with Benedict Cumberbatch on The Fifth Estate in 2013 and war movie Fury alongside Brad Pitt in 2014. Contreras is also a writer, having worked on the screenplay for the movie Labyrinth which stars Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker.
He portrayed the role of a guard in the 2012 movie, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ where he had just one scene. The movie tracked events following the 9/11 attacks. It ranked fairly well at the box office. He then worked alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘The Fifth Estate’ which came out in 2013. In 2016, he played a small role of a psychiatrist in ‘Snowden’. The movie was based on the life of a former CIA employee, Edward Snowden. In the same year, he was seen in Robert Mazur’s autobiography, ‘The Infiltrator’ as Lee Palmer. Robert Mazur was an undercover agent working to expose Pablo Escobar’s unethical businesses. The movie was well-received by viewers and bagged a couple of awards.
On the writing front, Contreras has worked on a short film titled, ‘City of Lies’ featuring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker. The film is an adaptation of Randall Sullivan’s book, ‘Labyrinth,’ which covers the police investigation in murders of rappers, Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. He also worked on the television series, ‘White Dragon’ and two movies, ‘The Rapture’ and ‘The Hurricane Heist. In 2015, he reportedly sold his film pitch of ‘Principia’ to Warner Bros for what is considered to be an exorbitant price by an unestablished writer.
He enrolled at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington to complete his Bachelor of Arts in English. He completed his BA (Hons.) in Acting from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
